Landslide destroys houses in Manipis
CEBU, Philippines – A landslide triggered by heavy rains Monday afternoon destroyed to a degree the houses of a barangay captain and a barangay councilor of barangay Manipis in Talisay City.
No one was reported hurt.
Barangay captain Joselito Laurente said his house and that of Councilor Edwin Ebin's were to some extent damaged and that his and Ebin's families are staying at the house of fellow barangay councilor Elde Juarex, which is located at the upper portion of the barangay.
Laurente said the loose soil and rocks which slid from the mountain have spilled into the road blocking vehicular traffic in the process.
He said the Talisay City Engineering Department has sent a payloader to the place to clear the streets of debris.
Felipa Solana, the chief of the City Social Welfare Services also said financial aid will be extended to families who have been affected by the landslide.
The city has not failed to remind people living in mountainous barangays and near creeks and rivers to be vigilant when the weather becomes troublesome. (FREEMAN)
