Minor in Masangkay's killing wants transfer to DSWD

CEBU, Philippines – From joining a fashion show to the jail.

This was what happened to one of the three accused in the killing of former Regional State Prosecutor Hernando Masangkay last June 28.

Police Officer 3 Mikie B. Espina accompanied the 17-year-old boy to the sala of RTC Branch 16 Judge Slyva Paderanga for the commitment before he was taken to the Talisay City Jail at Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City for detention.

According to the boy's mother, they will file a letter-request for Paderanga to allow the transfer of her son to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

She refused to divulge the name of their lawyer and asked media not to ask her any more questions.

The Talisay City police operatives arrested the accused in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, after he posted a message in a popular social networking site.

Talisay City Police Chief Henry Biñas, armed with a warrant of arrest for robbery with homicide, captured the minor on Saturday evening inside La Riquah Resto Bar in San Carlos City where he joined a male fashion show.

The police waited until the fashion show was over to serve the warrant of arrest to the minor.

Biñas said they got the tip from one of Masangkay's children, who found the Facebook message saying, "Kita kitakits ta sa San Carlos City."

Masangkay lived at the Camella Homes Subdivision in Barangay Lawaan I. The 72-year-old former state prosecutor was found dead inside his room with a single stab wound in his right throat. The police believe that he was also smothered because of there were three pillows covering his face.

He was also robbed of his P10,000-gold necklace and P4,000-cash.

The accused is said to be Masangkay's on call driver and was the last person seen in the house. The accused admitted he was working as driver for Masangkay.

The crime was discovered after his children got worried when Masangkay failed to answer their text messages. (FREEMAN)
