CEBU, Philippines – In a bid to avoid confrontation with church officials, the Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Committee has decided to drop the "Miss Gay" competition and replace this with a "Mr. Lapu-Lapu" contest, one of the nightly activities leading to fiesta day on Nov. 21.
Former Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Damian Gomez, who is the chairman of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism and Historical Affairs, said that in previous years the "Miss Gay" competition was always featured but had received sharp criticisms from residents and church officials.
"Maglikay nalang gyud ta nga dili maka bangga ug sa atong mga pari para wala nay problema," said Gomez.
He also said Tourism Night is the most awaited presentation by most residents. It is supported by the beach resorts and hotels in the city. (FREEMAN)
