In Mandaue: 62 bets running for village chief

CEBU, Philippines – In Mandaue City, 62 people are running for barangay captain, 587 for barangay councilman, 62 for Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and 395 for SK councilman.

Election officer Anna Fleur Gujilde said no barangay until now has been considered an area of concern, although some siblings would be running each other in the elections.

In barangay Looc alone, three Cabahug siblings will be running facing each other. Ceasar "Sol" Cabahug will be seeking reelection while his sister Leticia Cabahug Boholst, the mother of city administrator Briccio Boholst, and brother Raul "Pukang" Cabahug will run against Ceasar.

In barangay Opao, only Basiliza Ouano Icalina will vie for the barangay captain post while her brother Rafael Ouano, who was thought to run also for barangay captain, will seek reelection as barangay councilman. Three other candidates vying for barangay captain are Celestino "Jonel" Makalolooy and Sungahid Andro.

Opao barangay captain Joy Ouano who is now serving her last term of office is seeking a barangay kagawad post.

Joy said the slate identified with her supports the candidacy of Makalolooy, who is a councilor in the barangay.

Joy said her group is backing Makalolooy for the many things he had done for the barangay while still a private person then.

Makalolooy is also the person who they can rely on whenever the barangay marks fiestas.

On the other hand, Icalina is supported by her brother former mayor now provincial board member Thadeo Ouano. (FREEMAN)
