CEBU, Philippines – Ten barangay officials in Cebu province were recognized and awarded yesterday by the Provincial Government of Cebu for showing exemplary performance in their individual functions.
The annual search for the Ten Outstanding Barangay Officials of the Year (Toboy), which was started last year, is designed to give recognition to barangay officials of Central Visayas who showed diligence in the performance of their jobs.
The awards were divided into municipal and city levels.
Awardees in the city category are punong barangay of Bulacao Raul Cabañero, barangay kagawad of Toledo City Marlon Sayson, Sangguniang Kabataan chairman of Bogo City Jose Neil Lumongsod, barangay secretary of Toledo City Ginafe M. Ginafe and barangay treasurer of Toledo City Ana Ricamora.
The municipal level awardees are the punong barangay of Minglanilla Annabelle Simene, barangay kagawad of Pinamungajan Edison Tuquib, SK chairman of Balamban Neriessa Englis, barangay secretary of Medellin Raul Remulta, and barangay treasurer of San Fernando Dolores Seruela.
Each punong barangay received P10,000 while P8,000 was given for each barangay kagawad. The SK chairman, barangay secretaries and barangay treasurers, meanwhile, got P5,000 each.
According to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, they will give bigger prizes next year to encourage and motivate other barangay officials in the province.
The search is in cooperation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Liga ng mga Barangay- Cebu.
Meanwhile, the governor also gave financial assistance to the Sisters of Mary School for both Boys and Girls Town in Tungkop, Minglanilla.
The assistance was taken from the P50-registration fee during the Fun Walk organized by the Capitol last August.
Close to 1,000 people participated in the fund-raising campaign. (FREEMAN)
