Capitol accredits "family and child" foundation
CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu Provincial Government has accredited Norfil Foundation, Inc., a family and child caring agency, as a non-government organization of the Province of Cebu.
The Provincial Board, through the committee on accreditation headed by PB Joven Mondigo Jr., approved the application of Norfil Foundation.
Norfil Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, non-government organization which is duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Its mission is to serve abandoned, neglected, abused and disabled children through alternative family care and community-based rehabilitation.
The foundation has established office in Lapu-Lapu City in 1986 and has seven cooperatives in Metro Cebu and in component cities in the Province of Cebu.
It has provided community-based rehabilitation services to about 2,000 children and youth with disability, provides alternative family care to about 300 abandoned and neglected children and provides livelihood loans to about 5,000 poor but enterprising women.
PB Member Agnes Magpale, PB chair on committee on women, family and minors attested to the activity of the foundation in Danao City.
Norfil Foundation Executive Director Ma. Teresa Nuqui said that they are coordinating the local government units concerned on their activities.
Mondigo said that that his committee, after an examination of the application for accreditation and all the accompanying documents, found sufficient compliance with the requirements.
The law provides recognition of the significant role of peoples and non-governmental organizations as active partners in local governance and development.
However, before any organization or association may be given the personality to rightfully participate in the affairs of provincial government, it must be able to satisfactorily hurdle the requirements on accreditation as mandated by a provincial ordinance.
The accreditation also entitles the organization access to financial assistance from the Provincial Government. (FREEMAN)
