CEBU, Philippines – A seven-year-old boy died while four other minors were hurt in two separate vehicular accidents in Dumanjug and Barili towns.
In Dumanjug, Paul Raymund Aniñon died due to severe injuries he sustained after he was hit by a speeding Kawasaki motorcycle in Barangay Liong last Sunday evening.
Investigation revealed that the boy and his grandmother, Marcela Aniñon, were about to cross the road around 6pm when they were bumped by the speeding motorcycle.
Both sustained injuries and were rushed to the Barili District Hospital, but the boy died along the way.
No one was able to identify the driver of the motorcycle who fled right after the incident, even leaving his motorcycle behind. The vehicle is now with the Dumanjug Police Station, as authorities continue to identify its owner.
Meanwhile, in Barili town, four students of Mantalongon Elementary School sustained wounds and bruises after the motorcycle they were riding collided with another motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Mantalongon yesterday morning.
The victims were identified as Chendie Magalona, 8, Azer Magalona, 10, and Marially Delos Santos and Maria Delos Santos, both nine years old. The drivers of the motorcycles were identified as Bienvenido Delos Santos, 35, and Lee David Delfino, 19, all are residents of the said barangay.
Based on investigation conducted by the Barili Police, it was the Honda XRM motorcycle driven by Delfino that rammed into the RUSI motorcycle driven by Delos Santos. The incident happened around 7am.
Police said the two vehicles were traveling to opposite directions when the accident occurred.
Delos Santos was ferrying the four minors to the Mantalongon Elementary School while Delfino was on his way to Mantalongon proper. Upon reaching a gasoline station, Delfino, who was allegedly driving fast, rammed into Delos Santos' motorcycle.
The victims were brought to the Barili District Hospital for treatment while both motorcycles were brought to the Barangay Hall. (FREEMAN)
