For "abandoning" post: Two neophyte cops forgiven

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – The two rookie policemen, who were earlier ordered to explain for allegedly abandoning their beat patrol assignment, were already forgiven by their head after making an explanation.

This as their head, beat patrol supervisor Insp. Mercy Villaro, clarified that PO1s Camelo Ojeda and Erman Yap did not actually abandon their posts.

Ojeda and Yap were earlier ordered by Villaro to explain within 24 hours why no disciplinary actions should be taken against them for reportedly abandoning their assignment as beat patroller on Wednesday and Friday.

The two police officers were assigned at corner F. Cabahug and Juan Luna Streets in Barangay Mabolo last Friday and on Imus St. in Barangay Day-as last Wednesday.

Villaro said she personally conducted an inspection on Friday but did not find the two policemen at their assignment. PO3 Ricardo Mejia also reported that he did not find the two at their beat assignment on Wednesday.

Villaro said yesterday that she no longer required the two to make an explanation letter as they have already met with her and gave a verbal explanation.

The two said they were actually late by 30 minutes when Villaro conducted an inspection at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at corner F. Cabahug and Juan Luna Sts.

Last Wednesday, Mejia did not find them at their posts on Imus St. as they were helping managing the crowd during a demolition at the nearby F. Villa St., Barangay T. Padilla, Villaro said. (FREEMAN)
