2 rookie cops face probe for abandonment

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Two rookie policemen were ordered to explain within 24 hours why no disciplinary actions should be taken against them for abandoning their respective beat patrol assignments.

Police Officer 1 Camelo Ojeda and Erman Yap were found to have abandoned their beat assignments on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

Yap was assigned to patrol corner F. Cabahug and Juan Luna Streets while Ojeda was assigned at Imus Street in Barangay Day-as.

Inspector Mercy Villaro, beat patrol supervisor, said she personally conducted inspection on Friday but did not find Yap at his assignment.

PO3 Ricardo Mejia also reported that he did not find Ojeda in his beat assignment on Wednesday.

According to Villaro, she went to check Yap at around 9:30 a.m. Friday but he was nowhere to be found. Villaro said she asked from the vendors at the area but all of them said they have not seen the beat patrol cop assigned in the place.

Mejia on the other hand reported that he conducted inspections at least four times but did not find Ojeda in his assignment.

Mejia said he first passed by Ojeda’s area at around 1:25 p.m. then at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and finally at 6 p.m. but still did not find the policeman.

“In this regard, you are directed to explain in affidavit form within 24 hours upon receipt on why no disciplinary action should be instituted against you for being late to take post at your assigned beat areas,” Villaro’s memorandum reads.

She added that failure to comply within 24 hours will mean a waiver of their rights to be heard and will constrain them to institute the necessary disciplinary action.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
