Barangay officials from city to go on countryside tour

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines – Twenty-five days before the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, close to 1,000 officials and personnel from 65 barangays in Cebu City will be visiting towns and cities in southern Cebu for an "ecological countryside study tour" this Saturday.

Barangay Capitol Site councilman Manuel Guanzon, president of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines - Cebu City Chapter, said the one-day tour will provide participants an opportunity to expose themselves to other places and observe good practices thereat, which they could hopefully replicate in their own barangays.

Guanzon also said the tour will help barangay officials learn different approaches in developing their areas by preserving their individual uniqueness.

Participants will depart from the South Road Properties at 6am and will make their first stop at Minglanilla town and go down to Naga City, San Fernando and Carcar City.

They will then proceed to Barili town where they will have a courtesy call with Mayor Teresito Marinas.

The group will also visit the Mantayupan falls and will have a chance to visit the Hospicio de San Jose, as well as white beaches in Moalboal town, Sanayon Park in Santander, the oldest church in Boljoon town and documentation and viewing of Somilon Island. (FREEMAN)
