PLDT-Smart project helps boost teaching profession

CEBU, Philippines – In a move to make the Philippine education more aggressive, scholarship grants and English proficiency and computer literacy training programs have been lined up for teachers to boost their teaching capability.

This was part of the issues that teachers discussed during their gathering yesterday at Cebu Normal University for the celebration of the World Teachers Month.

The teachers also touched on the flagship project of PLDT-Smart Foundation called the Gabay Guro Program or 2G.

Gabay Guro is supported by the PLDT Managers' Club Inc., which is helping teachers augment their income through livelihood projects.

PLDT Managers' Club Inc. president Gabay Guro said Gabay Guro started three years ago by PLDT chief executive officer Manny V. Pangilinan.

Alexander S. Kibanoff, main speaker at the seminar, shared different kinds of techniques on effective teaching.

The PLDT vice president for training and career, Kibanoff pioneered the e-learning for PLDT.

During the event, teachers participated in different activities for them to interact at the seminar, called Teacher's Treasure Chest (Golden Lesson for Effective Teach-ing) which was designed by Kibanoff.

PLDT-Smart Foundation has now more than a hundred scholars in the country. (FREEMAN)
