CEBU, Philippines – A traffic policeman shot dead a member of the notorious Crips gang after a shootout in Barangay Poblacion Pardo Sunday evening.
Police Officer 2 Ramil Yncierto, 39, was on his way home waiting for a tricycle ride to Barangay Inayawan when he saw Ronnel Garces, 23, and his group assaulting Raymart Tabura, 17, a member of their rival Bloods gang.
Yncierto, assigned at the Traffic Patrol Group, tried to stop Garces and his group who was then about to shoot Tabura. The policeman, however, failed because Garces shot Tabura dead.
Tabura was hit on the stomach and was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center.
Yncierto ordered Garces to surrender but the latter instead fired at him but missed prompting the policeman to return fire. Garces was hit on his left upper arm but the bullet of the service firearm of Yncierto, a Caliber .40 Norinco pistol, grazed through Garces' body.
Garces was then arrested and a .38 paltik revolver was seized from him but he died at the CCMC at 11:00 a.m. yesterday.
Homicide investigator Judan Batucan said they were able to talk to Garces before he died at the hospital and the latter told them that he just wanted revenge because Tabura attempted to kill them last week.
Yncierto is currently placed under police custody pending investigation. (FREEMAN)
