Two people die after falling off motorcycles

CEBU, Philippines – A 54-year-old woman died while her son landed in the hospital after they met an accident while traveling on board their motorcycle in Carcar City last Monday after-noon.

Authorities said Magdalina Landongan and her son, Oliver, 29, were traversing Barangay Bolinawan on their way to Sibonga town when Oliver accidentally hit a dog that was crossing the road. This caused Oliver to lose control of the motorcycle, which swerved to the left and ram to the rear tire of a passing cargo truck.

The impact threw Landongan off the motorcycle for which she sustained serious injuries. Oliver himself sustained injuries.

The victims were brought to the Carcar City Hospital, but Landongan was pronounced dead on arrival. Oliver was transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver of the cargo truck, Rene Picante, 34, was temporarily detained at the Carcar Police Station, but was eventually released after his company agreed to give financial help to the victims.

Earlier that day a man believed to be suffering from a hyper tension also died after falling off the tricycle he was riding in Barangay Tuyom, Carcar City around 11am.

Herman Daclan Baclayon, 72, a resident of Barangay Quiot Pardo, Cebu City died after his head hit the road when he fell off the motorcycle driven by Alfredo Florita Navasquez, 43, of Sitio Lamacan, Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.

Investigation revealed that Baclayon was on his way home after visiting his relative when the accident happened.

SPO1 Norman Lapeña of Carcar City Police told The Freeman that the driver was still talking to Baclayon before the accident occured.

"Nag-istoryahanay pa ni silang duha. Unya pag-agi nila ug gamay na bungtod nahibung ang driver nganung wala na mitubag ang iyang angkas. Paglingi niya nakit-an niya na nalagpot na."

Navasquez immediately brought Baclayon to the Carcar City Hospital, but he immediately passed away due to internal hemorrhage. (FREEMAN)
