CEBU, Philippines - The Expanded Green and Wholesome Environment and Nurture project which was implemented in barangay Jagobiao in Mandaue City in a bid to stop the spread of the dengue disease is doing well.
Jagobiao Barangay Captain Ma. Edita Montesa told The FREEMAN that the Department of Health encourages people at the barangay level to clean-up their environment as an effective way of fighting dengue.
Montesa admitted that before, a swampy area in her barangay caused a big problem especially the health of the people but after the project was implemented, residents had few things to complain about their health.
"Daghan sa mga nagpuyo sa maong lugar ang nasakit ug tuberculosis ug dengue, apan karon wala na," Montesa said.
Montesa said Barangay Jagobiao's cleanliness and beautification program was initiated by her administration.
"Nagbunga gayud hinoon ang atong mga paningkamot gumikan kay nakadawat man kita ug pasidungog gikan ni Gobernador Gwen Garcia sa probinsya sa Sugbo," said Montesa.
Earlier, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes directed all barangay captains to spearhead the Dengue Brigade in their respective barangays. (THE FREEMAN)
