Gwen to Mike: "Don't call me, I'll call you"

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the provincial government is watching with “amusement” while city officials are debating on how much the 93-1 beneficiaries should pay the Cebu City government as soon as the proposed land swapping deal between the two local government units is completed.

Garcia said they are amused why the city officials are making a “big fuss” on something that the province does not even discuss yet. The Governor said she has not wavered in her position to negotiate only if the city officials are ready to come “with clean hands.”

Garcia is demanding that all “irritants” to the province should be removed before any land swapping renegotiation should be done. She is demanding from the city to remove the taunt signage at the South Reclamation Properties.

Garcia considered the signage bearing the message, “Please dim your lights. This is not the province” as an irritant that shows city officials’ insincerity to renegotiate.

Mayor Michael Rama, however, said that the signage at the SRP is beyond the city’s control.

The Governor, however, assured that no legitimate and bonafide occupants of the 93-1 lots be left without a roof over their head.

“Kana bang wa ba’y mga irritants. In good faith ba ta. Padesidiha una sila ana, in the meantime, my message to Mike, don’t call me, I’ll call you,” Garcia said.

Garcia earlier said she was already open for renegotiation but she sets conditions before doing it. One condition is to remove the billboards at the SRP, which South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña put up when he was yet the mayor.  (THE FREEMAN)
