Mandaue inspects public market

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government has intensified its campaign against delinquent stall holders and vendors at the city public market who deceive customers with tampered weighing scales.

Acting Mandaue City public market chief Cesar Mercadal Jr. said the move is in response to the directive issued by Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Mercadal said the campaign is presently focused on hot meat and poultry. He said he has asked the city veterinary office for additional abattoir inspectors so inspections can be done on a 24-hour basis.

Mercadal said his team has confiscated defective and tampered weighing scales.

At the same time, inspections include delinquent stall holders with the help of the city legal office.

City market officials also monitor the entry of imported meat. (THE FREEMAN)
