Restauro seeks cash aid for the elderly

CEBU, Philippines - Provincial Board member Sergio Restauro is asking Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to allocate P500,000 as financial assistance to the senior citizens in the province.

In a resolution he sponsored, Restauro wanted to put the amount as special funds for the Cebu Federation of Senior Citizens.

He cited Section 36 of the Local Government Code that allows LGUs, through its local chief executive with the concurrence of the sanggunian, to provide financial assistance to peoples and non-government organizations for economic, socially oriented, environmental and cultural projects within its territorial jurisdiction.

Restauro said that providing financial assistance to the senior citizens’ federation in the province is in line with the provincial government’s advocacy to promote the general welfare of its constituents specifically its senior citizens in exercising their special skills, talents and knowledge to the fullest.

The senior citizens’ federation earlier requested Restauro for financial assistance to sustain operations, especially the small media enterprise assistance that it offers to its members. (THE FREEMAN)
