CCPO awarded for effort against dengue

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – The National Police Commission awarded the Cebu City Police Office for coming up with an activity to help fight against the dreaded dengue disease.

The CCPO, through its director Melvin Ramon Buenafe, received a certificate of recognition during the closing ceremony of the National Crime Prevention Week last Wednesday at the Police Regional Office-7 headquarters.

Napolcom regional director Homer Cabaral personally handed over the award.

Napolcom said it recognized the initiative of the CCPO in helping the government and other agencies fight the virus, apart from their jobs as preserver of peace and order in the city.

"In grateful acknowledgement and deep appreciation of the significant collective efforts and accomplishments of its officers and members in the field of police com-munity relations and crime prevention endeavors thereby maintaining peace and order and ensuring public safety and security," the certificate read.

Aside from joking that the policemen are now also chasing mosquitoes aside from the criminals, Buenafe explained that their clean-up activity falls under public safety and security.

Last Tuesday afternoon, about a hundred personnel from the CCPO took part in the clean up activity in Barangay Kamputhaw.

Armed with brooms and dustpans, the policemen cleaned the area around the Kamputhaw Elementary School and other areas of the barangay.

Barangay tanods and members of the Barangay Intelligence Network also joined them.

The clean-up drive was also one of their activities in observance of the Crime Prevention Week. (FREEMAN)
