CEBU, Philippines – Seven persons, including a barangay captain, a public school teacher and three children, were injured after they figured in separate vehicular accidents in four different places in the province yesterday and Wednesday.

In Danao City, an eight-year-old boy landed at the hospital after he was accidentally hit while about to cross the road in Barangay Taytay around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

Traffic investigators said Jomaico Dumasig, resident of the place, was with his friends when he was hit by a Mazda vehicle, bearing plate numbers YHE-537 driven by Renante Traya, of Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

The car driver, who voluntarily surrendered to the police after the accident, admitted to The FREEMAN over telephone interview that he failed to notice the boy.

"Nakurat ko kay kalit na lang nibangga ang bata sa passenger side sa akong gimaniho

nga sakyanan. Adtu man nagtan-aw ang bata sa pikas dan," Traya added.

Traya said he was on his way to Carmen town to deliver hotdogs when the accident occurred. He immediately called a tricycle and asked its driver to bring the victim to the nearest hospital before he surrendered to the Danao City Police Station.

PO1 Romel Cotan, traffic investigator, said the company where Traya is connected promised to shoulder the hospital bills of the victim.

Police said Traya will eventually be released after the family of the boy shows no interest to press charges against him.

On Wednesday afternoon, a seven-year-old boy was also hit by a multicab in Barangay Abugon, Sibonga.

Police said James Vincent Genon, resident of the area, was accidentally hit by a Suzuki multicab (YGG-966) while he and his classmates were playing along the road.

The multicab, driven by Anatolio Servillita, 49, of Barangay Green Hills, San Fernando, was heading towards Carcar City when the accident happened.

Police said the victim crossed the road and did not notice the multicab.

Genon, who sustained injuries in the head, was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Servillita surrendered to the police station but was released after he promised to shoulder the medical expenses of the victim.

In Barili town, Onel Ofquira, 15, resident of Barangay Minolos was hit by a blue Honda wave motorcycle (GF-9794) driven by Richard Tresana, 31, of Barangay Bi-toon, Dumanjug Wednesday evening.

Police said Tresana was driving his motorcycle on his way to Barangay Mantalongon, Barili when upon reaching Barangay Minolos, the victim suddenly appeared and was accidentally hit by his vehicle.

Both Ofquira and the driver of the motorcycle sustained injuries and were brought to Barili District hospital. Ofquira was later transferred to VSMMC in Cebu City for further treatment.

Police arrested Tresana at the hospital and was brought to the Barili Police Station.

Three other persons, including a teacher and a barangay captain, were hurt in a vehicular accident in Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Tominjao Wednesday evening.

Those injured were Ruth Tamayo, a public school teacher; Nicomides Gracia, barangay captain of Amantugan and Randy Lumacang, a motorcycle driver.

Lumacang, 25, a resident of Barangay Kalangajan, was driving a red Yamaha motorcycle (STX-125) with Tamayo on pillion when they collided with the motorcycle driven by Gracia. The two vehicles were traveling towards opposite directions.

Drivers of both vehicles, including Tamayo, were injured and brought to Tuburan District Hospital. Lumacang was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for fur-ther treatment.

Police are still conducting follow-up investigation to determine the cause of the accident that also damaged both motorcycles. (FREEMAN)
