Manila Broadcasting Company brings back Cebu's oldest radio station
CEBU, Philippines – Cebu's oldest radio station dyRC of the Manila Broadcasting Company is coming back to life soon after over a decade of silence when the network's management de-cided in 1999 to cease operation to give way to a new management because of financial trouble.
DyXR Aksyon Radyo of Padayon Pilipino Foundation then replaced the legendary radio station on the AM band. For over 10 years Aksyon Radyo tried to compete with the other AM radio stations in Cebu in terms of audience share and commercial markets until it finally gave in to the tough competitions few weeks ago.
MBC who owns the radio franchise decided to bring back the legendary dyRC including some of its radio personalities before it ceased operation in 1999.
DyRC will be back on the air lanes on September 21 with its studio at the 3rd floor Cinco Centrum, Doña Maria Luisa Building, Fuente Osmeña.
Juniño Padilla, station manager, said that the change is brought by the new management of the MBC.
By bringing back DYRC, Padilla assured that the station has more to offer their listeners from latest news updates and discussions on current affairs to a lot of public service as once of their social responsibilities to their host community.
"We have a commitment to revive the media industry here through public service programming," Padilla said.
They also decided to bring its original name because DYRC is more known to the people as it used to be number one in the whole Visayas and Mindanao before it changed to DYXR in 1999.
DYRC will adopt its mother company DZRH's "Operation Tulong" which they will be named "Dangpanan" here, a program that will offer free medical, dental and legal services to the needy.
DYRC was first established in 1941, a year after its mother company was established in Manila. It will be celebrating its 70th anniversary on September 21.
"Ang DYRC nag-una sa tibuok kabisay-an ug Mindanao ug garbo kini sa Sugbo. Some of our famous personalities now used to work in DYRC like former Congress-man Tony Cuenco, Pilita Corales, Angelo Castro Sr., Inday Nita Cortez Daluz, among others," Padilla said.
With its new Digital Transmitter, the first station to have in Cebu, it expects to have a wider coverage and clearer signal.
Ramil Paican is the new operations manager while Father Dan delos Angeles who used to be DYRC's reporter will come back as a newscaster.
The public will also be able to listen to Roel Ponce Cabañero, Malou and Dennis Tabar, Loui Reyes, Ricky Poca, Divine Marcial, Atty. Gloria-Estenzo Ramos, Inday Misyel and Councilor Alvin Dizon.
The station will sign on at 4 a.m. everyday starting with a rosary and a Good News from the Lord through Father Carmelo Diola of Dilaab Foundation. (FREEMAN)
