Alegado focused on opening town college
CEBU, Philippines - Consolacion town Mayor Teresa Alegado said she is now working with officials of the Commission on Higher Education in Central Visayas in order to accomplish the permits needed for the operation of the Consolacion Community College.
Alegado told The FREEMAN that when she assumed office last July 1, 2010, she was immediately told about the problems besetting the college.
Alegado said the college is presently located at the Government Center in barangay Nangka and yet the town has not resolved the problem concerning the lot where the center sits.
"Ang gihimo nato karon mao ang pakig-alayon sa atong mga opisyal sa CHED aron sa ingon dili maproblema ang atong Community College kay ang mga bata man nato mao unya ang maproblema," said Alegado.
According to Alegado, one of her priority programs is to improve the quality of education in the public elementary and high schools in the town.
She said college is a big help to parents who cannot afford to enroll their children in colleges and universities in Mandaue and Cebu cities.
Last week, Alegado announced that she facilitated the donation of at least six classrooms for the Consolacion National High School.
She said a businessman based in Manila has promised to support her education program. (THE FREEMAN)
