Miguel Osmeña won't run for any brgy post

CEBU, Philippines - Miguel Osmeña, the only child of Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña and Cebu City councilor Margot Osmeña, yesterday ruled out running for barangay captain or councilman of Guadalupe in next month’s synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

“It’s not true and it’s all speculation,” Miguel said.

Miguel assured Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan ally and friend, Guadalupe councilman Dino Faelnar, that he will not be challenged by anyone from the BOPK.

“I have no interest in facing him (Dino). If I will run, I cannot go with my dad,” Miguel said.

Dino is the son of Association of Barangay Councils president Eugenio “Jing-Jing” Faelnar, who is now on his last term as Guadalupe barangay captain.

The younger Faelnar is happy with the development as he plans to replace his father who has been barangay captain since 1998.

Dino, who started his political career as the then Kabataan chairman in 1985, said his father will also not be running for the barangay council.

Meanwhile, there are other last-term barangay captains who are running for their council.

Adlaon barangay captain Nieve Narra, Ermita barangay captain Felicisimo Rupinta and Pasil barangay captain Romeo Ocarol, who are now on their last terms, will settle down for council posts.

Both Narra and Ocarol have sons in their respective councils and are both encouraging them to run for barangay captain.

There are barangay councilmen in other barangays like Apas, Hipodromo, Inayawan, San Roque, Punta Princesa, Kalunasan and Suba, who will be challenging their incumbent barangay captains.

Capitol Site barangay councilman Manuel Guanzon, Zapatera barangay councilman Francisco Benedicto and Parian barangay councilman William Balaga, plan to return as barangay captains, asking their respective sons to settle for councilman.

Cebu City Councilor Sisinio Andales, a former barangay captain of Pahina-San Nicolas, said that his wife, Linda will be running for councilwoman.

 The filing of the certificate of candidacy for the barangay posts will be on October 1 to 13 while the campaign will start on October 14 to 23. Election day will be on October 25. (THE FREEMAN)
