CEBU, Philippines - A source at the Cebu City Hall said south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña’s son, Miguel, is planning to run for barangay captain in Guadalupe in next month barangay election.
But Miguel’s mother, south district councilor Margot Osmeña, said her son will not be running for the position.
If the City Hall official is right, Miguel is expected to challenge Dino Faelnar, the barangay’s first councilman and son of incumbent Association of Barangay Councils president Eugenio “Jing-jing” Faelnar, who is now on his last term as Guadalupe barangay captain.
Faelnar is one of the close allies of the Osmeñas.
“He is interested in running. I was surprised when I learned that he is running against the son of Jing-jing,” the city official said, adding that Miguel is just waiting for the results of a survey.
Furthermore, the city official said that Dino, who is a first-term councilman, is weak in the surveys and that Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan is afraid that the opposition will take over the barangay.
The city official said that Miguel will not have a hard time winning since he has the support of the former mayor and Margot.
“If he wins, then another Osmeña in the city council kay basin modagan siya pagka-ABC president,” the official said.
In a separate interview, Dino said he will be running for barangay captain and does not believe that Miguel is interested in the position.
Dino said that talks may just have been circulated by his opponents who are also interested in the position.
“Dili tingali (modagan) kahibalo naman ta sa kontra,” Dino said.
Sources said Miguel was abroad, but The FREEMAN was able to contact Margot who also denied that her son will run.
“Wow! Oh, absolutely not true,” Margot said. /BRP (THE FREEMAN)
