PRO-7 revives Task Force Motorsiklo

CEBU, Philippines – The Police Regional Office 7 will be reactivating the Task Force Motorsiklo to address the resumption of crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects in the region.

Sr. Supt. Edgardo Ingking, Deputy Regional Director for Operations, gathered provincial and city police directors to a command conference yesterday to discuss the reactivation of the task force.

Ingking said the task force was instrumental in bringing down the number of crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding men before the May 10 elections and it was precisely because of this decline that it was eventually deactivated.

Ingking said PRO-7 Director Ager Ontog, who was in Malacañang, yesterday gave them the go signal to discuss the reactivation of the task force in line with an executive order is-sued by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, which created the Cebu Provincial Inter-agency Anti-criminality Task Force.

"Pag-review namo, nakita g'yud na dako kaayo ang advantage sa Task Force Motorsiklo from October 2008 when it was started until middle of 2009. There was a move to deacti-vate kay na-achieve na ang goal but pag-election, na-set aside mao misaka ang commission of crimes using guns," Ingking said.

To revitalize the task force, four areas will have to be considered - operations, intelligence, investigation and police community relations.

Ingking disclosed that crimes perpetrated by motor-riding criminals have increased considerably in Cebu and Bohol recently that they were directly particularly to step up their op-erations.

Ingking said they are also looking into gun-manufacturing in Cebu as a factor in the proliferation of the crime.

Under TF Motorsiklo, the police will undertake both foot and mobile patrol, police visibility, intensifying of checkpoints and intelligence gathering, and police community relations activity through aggress campaign to educate the public. (FREEMAN)
