Driver stabbed, robbed by former co-worker

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – A 22-year-old man stabbed a former co-worker before attempting to cart away the cash that the victim was bringing with him along Esperanza Village in Barangay Tisa Saturday afternoon.

Rogelio Geramis, 34, of Yagda, Barangay Mambaling nearly lost his life after he was stabbed on the left part of his chest by Christopher Mijares, of La Paloma, Baran-gay Labangon.

Mijares, a former assistant cook of a catering service owned by Dianne Lopez in Barangay Labangon, also tried to get the P6,000-cash that Geramis was bringing with him.

SPO4 Danilo Abella of Punta Princesa Police Station said that the victim was driving a canter from Mambaling bound for Labangon when the suspect flagged him down and requested to board on the vehicle. The victim just came from Mambaling to collect the cash, which was the day's income from the Lotto outlet also owned by Lo-pez.

Abella narrated further that when the two reached the place at around 8:30 pm, the suspect suddenly stabbed him and tried to take away the envelope containing the cash placed near the victim.

Although he was already wounded, the victim managed to take the envelope from the suspect, got off the vehicle and ran away as fast as he could.

The responding policemen found the vehicle but the suspect was no longer to be found.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center and was later transferred to the Chong Hua Hospital where he went under surgery and is now in a stable condi-tion.

Emely Gerzon, the catering's cook, told The FREEMAN that the suspect, who has been working at the catering service since last December, was terminated last Wednesday. (FREEMAN)
