CEBU, Philippines - University of the Visayas President and Eduardo Gullas extended his congratulations to one of the university’s students for making it to the top 10 of the recent Nursing licensure examinations.
“I would like to congratulate Marie Kathrina Toralba Tojong for placing eighth in the recent Nursing licensure exam. I congratulate her. I congratulate her parents. I congratulate her teachers and the teachers of the College of Nursing and all those who inspired her to do her best,” Gullas said.
Tojong was one of the seven Nursing students from Cebu who made it to the top 10.
Gullas, who is also the representative of Cebu’s first district, recalled the time the Commission on Higher Education announced UV was among the schools whose Nursing program is being recommended for closure.
“I wrote a letter to CHED that the group average of our nursing graduates was higher than the national average,” he said.
CHED eventually sent a letter of apology to Gullas admitting that it had mistakenly included UV in the list.
“We take cognizance for the performance of the graduates in nursing of the University of the Visayas, Banilad, Mandaue City for the year 2009. A review of the data given to us by the Professional Regulation Commission revealed that truly your graduates’ performance in the 2009 Board Examination for Nurses is 45.72 percent which is above the National Passing Percentage of 40.70 percent,” the letter read.
Gullas also said all UV Nursing licensure exam passers will be given recognition while the topnotchers can expect special honors from the school. (FREEMAN NEWS)
