DOST launches water development facility
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Science and Technology-7 has launched the Eco-Efficient Water Infrastructure Development Facility with the United Nations Economic and Social commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The project was launched to sustain water development and to mitigate the impact of climate change through an improved ecological efficiency. It will apply modern technology for water reuse and recycling.
KOICA has been promoting international cooperation by contributing to the economic and social development of developing countries through assistance and technical cooperation.
It also assists non-governmental organizations in their efforts to expand their activities overseas.
During the launching of the project, new apparatus that would help save and treat water were introduced. These apparatus are the green filter, rainwater drainage tank, micro-filtration system, waste water treatment facility, treatment tank, and the integrated rainwater treatment emote administration system.
Kim Tae Hyung, economic affairs officer of UNESCAP’s Environment and Development Division, and DOST regional director Rene Burt Llanto called on the city to embrace this kind of technology.
They also encouraged the tapping of rainwater as it could help prevent flood, save tap water, and preserve the nature.
Rae Kwon Chung, director for Environment and Development Division of UNESCAP, said that the project is one of the solutions to the lack of water in the city. (FREEMAN)
