Capitol seeks five more scholars

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Tertiary Education Assistance Program (CTEAP) needs five more scholars from poor but deserving students, according to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

CTEAP now has 288 scholars, 85 of whom are new students, who studied from the different colleges in the city and the province. Garcia said that everyone faces challenges but there are those who really excel despite their financial incapability.

“Pareho mong nag-atubang og hagit but there are those who excel. My challenge is to push that bar for a constant challenge of excellence,” she told the students during the recent recognition of CTEAP scholars.

Seeing the efforts of the scholars, the governor plans to raise to P2,000 from P1,000 their monthly allowance, which was approved during the Provincial Board session.

Aside from that, the provincial government is also giving P5,000 additional cash incentives to all scholars and another P10,000 for those who had already graduated.

Scholars who enrolled in ladderized courses will receive P1,000 each. Those who passed the national exam will be given an additional P30,000.

Seven cum laude graduates who will receive P15,000 each are Maria Erhara Silka Intervencion, Jhodee Rigodon, Sheila Mae Amazona, Ma. Kiefer Montecillo, Melody Inong, Rommel Roxas and Anelyn Delima, who is also a CPA board passer, and Grace Rubia, an Academic Excellence Awardee. Two magna cum laude graduates are Armando Saraum and Ulpiano Impas Jr. who will receive P20,000 each.

According to the governor, as much as possible they need to open doors for deserving students who wish to be a college degree holder.

“We are grateful because at your young age, you build this determination and soon one of you will be a future leader. We are here to give you the nurture so you become an exquisite future of tomorrow,” she said.  (FREEMAN)
