Garcia wants all mayors to sign MOA with NFA

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia wants all mayors in the province to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the National Food Authority (NFA) for the imme-diate distribution of stocks to their constituents during calamities.

Garcia said although there are towns that signed a MOA with the NFA, there are others in the province that did not heed her calls for them to enter into such agreement.

She said that some of these towns are still dependent on the provincial government during calamities.

Although the province will continue to assist them, she still encourages them to sign a MOA with NFA in order for them to immediately avail of the rice during disas-ters. The governor urged the mayors to be more responsible because in every calamity, it should be the local government unit that will immediately respond to the needs of the people.

She added that assistance has already been distributed to the towns of Argao and Santander while the aid for Bantayan is ready for shipment after whirlwinds struck several houses in those areas. (FREEMAN)
