Policeman who shot attacker dead gains temporary liberty

CEBU, Philippines – A policeman who shot dead a drunken man early morning last Wednesday in sitio Univille, Barangay Kasambagan, has posted bail for his temporary liberty.

PO2 Japheth Malima, a resident of barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City left the Chong Hua Hospital to post a bail of P40,000 at the sala of judge Meinrado Paredes be-fore going back to the hospital.

Malima, assigned to the Tourist Action Center of Cebu City Police Office, is accused of shooting dead Ferdinand Inot, 38, after Inot allegedly stabbed him when he confronted the latter.

Malima, who was off-duty at the time, said he brought three women to see Inot, who was drinking with his friends Edwin Lastimoso and Jose Bacalso after the women claimed the three made fun of them.

When Malima showed them his PNP ID, Lastimoso alleged grabbed his wallet while Inot stabbed him in abdomen, forcing him to shoot Inot.

Malima still managed to take himself to the hospital before calling his superior Tourist Assistance Center chief Sr. Insp. Stanley Sabang to surrender.

Meanwhile, Lastimoso is also planning to post a bail of P8,000 for his temporary liberty after Malima filed a case against him for theft. (FREEMAN)
