Traveling science museum visits Cebu
CEBU, Philippines – Students and other interested Cebuanos now have the chance to experience fun and adventure with science.
That, as the country’s first interactive traveling science museum was opened in Cebu yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center. The science works exhibit will be open to the public until September 30.
It offers the public a selection of interactive hands-on exhibit through fun and entertaining ways of teaching. This way, the museum will promote better understanding of science and technology concepts.
The Philippine Science Centrum is a flagship program of The Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST) with its cooperating agencies - the Science Centrum Fabrication, Inc., the Department of Education, the Department of Science and Technology and the Riverbanks Center.
There were 40 featured exhibits, the most interesting of which is the “Van de Graaff Generator.” This got the most number of viewers as they were treated to the fun surprise of their hair standing up when they touch the electric field that has the shape of a ball.
“Through this interactive exhibit, visitors especially children will experience a unique learning tool that fosters better understanding of science principles,” the Philippine Science Centrum explains in the handouts given to the viewers.The organizers hope that through the exhibit, some viewers will become more interested in science, enough for them to venture into a career in science.
The Philippine Science Centrum Science On the Move was already featured in Isabela and Laguna. Their next stop after Cebu is Palawan.
Students of different schools such as Tisa Elementary School, Abellana National High School and University of Southern Philippines Foundation- Lahug viewed the exhibits yesterday. (FREEMAN)
