CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Provincial Board Member Julian Daan wants the Department of Education to have students in the province to sing the “Sugbo,” the Provincial Hymn during the flag ceremonies.
Daan has proposed a resolution directing Department of Education Provincial director Dr. Arden Monisit to strictly implement Provincial Ordinance No. 2006-10 adopting the song “Sugbo” as the Provincial Hymn of the Cebu and making it mandatory for all students of public elementary and high schools within the province to sing it during the flag ceremony right after the singing of the National Anthem.
The ordinance was enacted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cebu on October 2, 2006 but Daan said it is not strictly observed in both public elementary and high schools.
“This is to make the students, especially the youth, to have the feeling of pride since the song aptly describes the Province of Cebu as the source of one’s dreams and aspirations,” the resolution reads.
However, Daan’s proposal was not approved in yesterday’s PB session and was moved to the next session because he was not around.
Meanwhile, in another resolution, Daan also expressed support to the call of President Benigno Aquino for the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to strictly implement the what appears to be a forgotten Executive Order No. 255 directing radio stations to air at least four Filipino songs every hour in their music programs.
The said “forgotten” Executive Order was issued by the late President Corazon Aquino “Requiring all Radio Stations with Musical Format Programs to Broadcast a Minimum of Four Original Filipino Musical Compositions in Every Clock Hour.”
Daan stated in his resolution that P-Noy already directed the head of the Presidential Management Staff to call up the Department of Transportation and Communications and even remind the NTC to fully implement the existing executive order as soon as possible. (FREEMAN)
