Ombuds, Napolcom urged to probe "slapping" of reporter

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - Members and officers of Media Alliance for the Law, Liberty, Equality and Truth has condemned the “inimical act” of Sr. Supt. Vicente Velasquez, chief of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, for allegedly slapping a police reporter.

MALLET officers and members likewise asked the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas, the National Police Commission, Ang Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas, the Commission on Human Rights to conduct an investigation into the matter.

“Velasquez act is inimical, condemnable and unprofessional to the standards of decency,” the group said in a resolution.

Reporter Lesley Caminade of Banat News and radio DYLA was allegedly slapped by Velasquez after she asked him if she could go with him to a fire scene. Caminade was thinking the police official will be responding to a fire alarm because he was in a hurry.

But Velasquez reportedly slapped her on the right face and told her that he was upset because his house was also gutted down by the fire on T. Padilla St.

Several other media groups have already expressed condemnation and dismay over the actuations of Velasquez.  (THE FREEMAN)
