Ex-tanod of Barangay Ermita shot dead

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A laborer who used to be a barangay tanod of Ermita, Cebu City was shot dead by three unidentified men along M.C. Briones St., Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City shortly after midnight last Friday.

Joseph Padayon, 28, died of gunshot wounds in his head and face.

Investigation showed that the victim was pushing a cart filled with assorted vegetables when the three men appeared and opened fire.

Some of the residents nearby tried to bring the victim to the hospital but he already died.

Responding policemen found his body bathed in blood, his head with a fissure because of the bullet.

They recovered an empty shell apparently of caliber .45 and a slug of the same caliber.

SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section said the suspect most possibly took revenge against the victim, who encountered a fistfight with a group of men in Sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita the other day.

Dacua said they are still verifying this information as they could not just point at the said men as the suspects.

The body now lies at San Fernando Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a man stabbed his neighbor in Barangay Day-as past 7 a.m. yesterday.

The victim was Harold Palang, 35, while the suspect was Ruel Espina, a water vendor.

The victim told the police that he was standing outside his house when the suspect approached him and without a word, stabbed him on the stomach with a knife.

The victim was rushed by his family to the Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect fled.

Dacua said the suspect was harboring an ill feeling against the victim.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
