CEBU, Philippines – A barangay tanod reportedly shot and injured a 19-year-old construction worker whom he accused of stealing his motorcycle last Thursday night inside the Chinese Cemetery in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.
Roberto Tuñacao was reportedly drunk when he shot Raffy Obiña during a verbal tussle at past 6 p.m.
Randolph Bentulan, 26, a bartender/waiter, told police that he was drinking liquor with the victim and some of their friends, including Richard Tuñacao (nephew of the suspect), Renante Obiña (elder brother of the victim) and a certain Agit when the armed suspect came.
The tanod, who was allegedly also under the influence of liquor, then told them: "Kinsa'y nangawat sa motor sa carwash?" then aimed the gun to Renante and kicked him.
The suspect then turned his ire to his nephew and whipped his head. He then demanded to locate Raffy as he wanted to talk to him. When Raffy arrived, he was allegedly confronted by the suspect for stealing the motorcycle but the victim strongly denied.This resulted to a verbal tussle between the two that forced the tanod to shoot Raffy. The victim was hit to his pelvic area.Tuñacao allegedly shoot again but only hit the left hand of the victim who parried the firearm.
For the third time, the suspect reportedly shot at him again but missed. At this juncture, the suspect fired twice aimlessly towards the victim's companions before fleeing.
The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect is now a subject of a manhunt operation. (THE FREEMAN)
