Mandaue College execs explain school's classes in Daanbantayan town

CEBU, Philippines -  The Sangguniang Bayan of Daanbantayan had invited officials of the Mandaue City College to explain why it was conducting extension classes in barangay Bagay in the municipality without securing permits to operate.

Officials of MCC headed by its president, Paulus Marie Cañete and lawyer Victor Biaño, appeared before the SB session last week to shed light on the classes being conducted in the town.

Incidentally, Cañete hails from barangay Bagay.

SB member Samuel Moralde who chairs the committee on education raised the matter after he learned about the holding of night classes in the barangay hall of Bagay for students who have enrolled in the school.

Moralde, who has the support of his colleagues, said Daanbantayan was not informed about the classes nor did MCC secure permits for its operation.

Cañete said the school received a copy of a resolution from barangay council of Bagay requesting MCC to hold night classes in the place.

Asked whether it was proper to conduct extension classes in the barangay without securing permits, Cañete said the school alone acts on the request without having to secure papers as it has done in other places.

Cañete in behalf of the school and kagawad Joecel Dapat in behalf of the barangay council, apologized to the town officials for the misunderstanding.

Moralde said the council invited Cañete and Biaño because it wanted some matters clarified.

He said the extension classes may be conducted in the entire municipality.

Seventeen students are enrolled in education, industrial technology and hospitality management courses in barangay Bagay this year. — THE FREEMAN
