CEBU, Philippines - A 32-year old man drowned himself after making an attempt to drown his live-in partner in barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday afternoon.
Lapu-Lapu City Homicide investigator SPO1 Jack Inihao, who investigated the crime, said live-in partners Rico Tanan and Rona Fe Suelto were seen arguing continuously.
Inihao said Tanan took the woman to another place in the coastal barangay where they continued quarrelling. After some more quarrelling, Tanan dragged Suelto to the water and tried to drown her.
"Gidala sa lalaki ang iyang ka live-in-partner sa suba unya gilumsan," Inihao told The FREEMAN.
Minutes later, Suelto's father arrived, punched Tanan, and raised his daughter from the water.
Bystanders quickly sought assistance.
"Gitabangan og luwas ang babaye, nadala ra man sa hospital," Inihao said.
He said the woman is still fighting for her life.
After being punched, Tanan drowned himself.
"Naglumos pud ang lalaki sa iyang kaugalingon sa pagtuo siguro nga namatay iyang kapuyo," Inihao said.
Tanan and Suelto were to be married this year.
The police can't yet tell what triggered the couple's fight.
