CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will call a meeting with the Provincial Board to discuss issues, especially on the implementation of barangay projects.
Garcia told reporters that the meeting is part of her promise to the PB during its inaugural session that she is open for a dialogue with its members.
According to Garcia, some PB members are neophytes that there is a need for them to familiarize with the procedures, especially in helping the executive department through legislative measures.
Garcia said some of them are handling important committees that can assist her office in improving the delivery of basic services to the barangay.
She cited the newly created committee on person with disabilities, which is chaired by sixth district Board Member Arleigh Sitoy.
The governor stressed that the committee on tourism chaired by Board Member Agnes Magpale also played an important role in the implementation of tourism development programs.
The governor will also discuss with the board member projects funded by their respected Legislative Assistance Fund.
Although Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. is opposing the changes ordered by Garcia on the release of the Legislative Assistance Fund, Garcia said majority of the board members supported her move.
She explained that under the new set up, funds for barangay projects will be released after the recommendation from the board member and the Provincial Planning Office.
“Dili na kaayo mahasol ang atong mga sakop sa Provincial Board unya paspas usab ang pagpagawas sa gahin para sa mga proyekto,” said Garcia. (THE FREEMAN)
