Sirao barangay tanod hacks neighborhood "toughie"
CEBU, Philippines – A barangay tanod hacked and injured an alleged toughie in their place in Barangay Sirao, Cebu City at 5 p.m. last Tuesday.
Roel Borres, 43, was prompted to hack his neighbor Randy Billordon, 30, who allegedly tried to stab him first.
Investigation showed that Billordon was in a drinking spree with his neighbor, a certain Wilmar, when he noticed a garbage bag at the house of his brother.
Billordon asked Borres, who happened to pass by the area, whether he knew who threw the garbage bag there. Borres replied, “Adtoa si Bernis kay siya naglabay ana,” and he then walked away.
Billordon claimed that Borres came back later already armed with a 20-inch long bolo and without any provocation, hacked him twice on his back. Wounded, Billordon managed to run inside his house and sought assistance from his family.
He was taken to the Guba District Hospital and was later transferred to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment while the suspect voluntarily surrendered to Barangay Councilor Epitacio Gabunada, Jr. who was assisted by SPO2 Graciano Tan III of the Cebu City Mobile Group.
PO3 Victor Ruel Ayuman of the Homicide Section said Borres told him that Billordon tried to stab him first, which prompted him to take the bolo tucked on his waist and hacked Billordon. The suspect carries with him a bolo most of the time, considering that he is a farmer, like the victim.
Ayuman could not say if the victim was harboring a grudge against the suspect but he said the victim is “buloyagon” (trouble maker). The victim, according to Ayuman, was often a subject of trouble alarms which are responded to by the barangay officials.
“Kwanggolon daw na. Kanunay daw na siya alarmahan kay sige og create og trouble. ‘Nya labanan man sa barangay kapitan ang tanod,” Ayuman said.
The tanod is now detained at the CCPO stockade while a frustrated murder case is now being prepared against him. (THE FREEMAN)
