Taxi driver found dead in own cab

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – A taxi driver was found dead inside his cab with a lone stab wound on his neck around 8pm Sunday at Honey Homes Subdivision in Barangay Kinasang-an.

The driver was identified as Alberto Resus, 55, a resident of Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City. He was found lifeless inside a unit of Catz Taxi with plate number GWY-669 and body number 3436 with a stab wound on his lower neck.

Isilino Dignos, 31, told authorities he was walking along the road when he saw the taxi with the driver struggling inside. He then sought assistance from barangay officials. Resus was already dead when personnel of the Basak-Pardo Emergency Response arrived at the area.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said robbery may not be the motive of the killing, considering that the victim’s belongings were still intact.

Crime Scene investigators recovered a Nokia cellular phone and P750 cash, a wallet with assorted papers, a bottle of a vitamins, sun glasses, ticket notebook, bag containers, brown envelope with the taxi’s OR, ballpen, sun visor, false teeth, wrist band and bracelet.

“Atong i-establish ang lugar kung asa siya gikan, sa Talisay ba o Cebu City. Base sa patak sa iyang metro (taxi meter), duol ra siya sa lugar na ilado na suyopanan. Posible na iyang pasahero padong didto ‘nya gitrippingan siya then gidunggab,” Comendador said.

Comendador said they will check on the victim’s background. Resus’ remains were taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes for post mortem examination. (THE FREEMAN)
