CEBU, Philippines – Provincial board members Joven Mondigo and Sun Shimura have proposed the installation of road markers and signages to properly identify the different municipalities and component cities of the province.
The two representatives of the fourth district in the Cebu Provincial Board co-authored a resolution asking the Provincial Engineering Office to install the said markers and signages to guide travelers especially the tourists.
Shimura and Mondigo said that Cebu plays a vital role in trade and commerce in the country, if not in Asia because of its gift of natural harbor that now serves as the focal point of growth and development in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Being dubbed also as the “island of festivals” and rich in cultural and historical heritage being the first Spanish Settlement in the country, Cebu is being frequented by local and foreign tourist and by a huge cross-section of the Visayas Community.
The two board members said that indications point that Cebu has become a favorite tourist destination and convention hub for Visayas and Mindanao because of the presence of world-class facilities.
However, the two have noticed that the jurisdiction and boundaries of some cities and municipalities in the Province have not been clearly delineated.
The absence of the proper markers and signages has created confusions to the tourists and travelers.
They cited an incident where a motorists or tourist who intends to proceed to the Municipality of Daanbantayan got lost while traversing the national highway in Bogo City and ended up in Hagnaya Port in San Remigio.
The tourist blamed the lack of directional signages in the place. The resolution of Shimura and Mondigo will be deliberated by the members of the board today. (THE FREEMAN)
