Concrete lane separators to replace tires in Talisay

-

CEBU, Philippines - In the hopes of having a better traffic system and prevent accidents at the same time, Talisay City has planned to put a concrete lane separator from the Bulacao area down to the highway of barangay Linao.

City Councilor Rodi Cabigas, council committee chairman on Infrastructure and Public Works, said the city has already set aside P5 million for the realization of this plan, which he expects to be started within this year.

"There's already an initial budget for this project, around P5 million. So hopefully, this gets started this year," said Cabigas.

This new project, he explained, will connect with the lane separator Mananga Bridge in barangay Tabunok, which was constructed last year.

There is already an existing concrete barrier from the East Visayan Academy in Bulacao down to the Gaisano Grand Fiesta Mall in barangay Tabunok.

Cabigas said the new lane separator project will start from the Lawaan-Pooc junction and end of Cebu South Coastal Road intersection in barangay Lawaan, replacing the old tires utilized as temporary lane separator. And like in Tabunok, this lane separator will also have light posts with twin lights.

Last year, following the series of accidents in the highway of Lawaan, the city placed these tires to serve as a road separator, as motorists would be hindered from stepping on the solid yellow line. It was last year, that the city had recorded a number of accidents involving students and pedestrians who crossed this highway, because of that traffic violations.

The tires, which were painted with reflectorized yellow and black, have to be removed however after their concrete base had been destroyed by vehicles that get in contact with these everyday.

The traffic commission had placed at least 1,500 used tires from the highway of Linao and Lawaan I and III. (THE FREEMAN)
