Seven kids hurt in Liloan road accident
CEBU, Philippines - Eight tricycle passengers, seven of them children, were hurt when the vehicle they were riding bumped into the rear portion of a multi-cab they were tailing on the national highway in Sitio Bahak, Barangay Poblacion, Liloan last Wednesday afternoon.
Police had to arrest and detain the driver of the tricycle, Glenn Bataluna Talisic, 25, after it was determined that he was under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.
The victims were Desiree Asmolo, 10; Mitzie Claire Babatido, 6; Archie James Babatido, 7; Jayvel Peligro, 7; Florie Jane Talisic, 3; Mary Joy Repuela, 13, all residents of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Poblacion; Kyla Marie Longakit, 8, of Sitio Bahak, of the same barangay and one adult Floramie Wagas, 23, from Barangay Jubay.
Traffic personnel who conducted investigation into the accident revealed that the Honda TMX tricycle, bearing plate numbers GF-1963, was traveling towards south and was tailing a Suzuki multi-cab with plate number GXB-157 driven by George Bernardo Mori, 31.
Due to intoxication, Talisic allegedly lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the rear part of the multi-cab resulting to the injury of his passengers.
The victims were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital but were later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City for further treatment.
Batulan was arrested by the responding police officers after the accident and is now temporarily detained at the Liloan Police Station for the filing of appropriate charges against him.
In Naga City, a motorcycle driver also landed at the hospital after he was accidentally hit by a 10-wheeler truck on the national highway in Barangay Tuyan around 2:30 in the afternoon of the same day.
Eduardo Paquibot of San Isidro Talisay City was driving his Honda TMX motorcycle when he was accidentally hit by an Isuzu 10-wheeler truck with plate numbers YEN-289 driven by Roberto Amparado, 38, of Talisay City.
According to the police, the two vehicles were traveling on opposite directions and upon reaching the place, the truck overtook another vehicle, but Amparado failed to notice the motorcycle and hit it.
Due to the impact, Paquibot sustained severe physical injuries and was rushed to South General Hospital in Naga City. He was later transferred to Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.
Amparado was arrested and detained at the police station but was later released after the owner of the truck he was driving promised to shoulder the hospital expenses of the victim. (FREEMANNEWS)
