CEBU, Philippines- Six passengers were seriously injured when a multicab collided with a jeepney at the Mactan Economic Zone 1, barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.
Celso Josol, a jeepney driver and resident of barangay Canjulao, lost his brakes while cruising along the highway.
Josol suffered minor injuries but passengers Nelson Caulani, Brenda Cañete, Lilia Sabior, Ma. Lucia Jovanal, and Jennifer Vosotros, all employees of MEPZ 1, and Mario Cataluna, the driver of the multicab, sustained serious injuries.
Cataluna sustained a wound on his forehead.
They were immediately brought to hospital.
Lt. Danilo Ledesma of the MEPZ police said that at 6:35 a.m., the jeepney, with plate number GWT 961, was heading along the highway in Lapu-Lapu from MEPZ while the multicab was heading towards Gate 3 of MEPZ when the incident happened.
Josol said as he was making a left turn the multicab was heading towards his direction.
"Nabali man gud ang bolt joint, dili nako maka-brake maong akong giliko pero timing nga padung na pud siya (multicab driver) maong nagbangga jud mi," Josol said.
Cataluna said he is thankful he quickly raised his feet to avoid getting pinned.
"Kalit ra man kaayo siya niliko wala dayon ko maka-break. Wa na koy lain mahimo kung dili isaka nalang gyud nako akong tiil," Cataluna said.
Josol, who is in the custody now of the MEPZ police, is waiting for charges to be filed by the victims.
