Government workers ask P.Noy to fire Winston
CEBU, Philippines - A group of government employees has asked President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to immediately replace Government Service Insurance System president Winston Garcia.
Courage president Ferdie Gaite said they are still waiting for P.Noy to appoint a more qualified person for the position.
“Several days after he (Mr. Aquino) was sworn into office and still he has yet to take out Garcia from the GSIS,” Gaite said during a weekly media forum.
Gaite said Garcia should have been out of GSIS because he is supposedly co-terminus with former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Winston has drawn flak from several sectors, especially GSIS members, for his alleged mismanagement of the agency.
Winston’s father and Second District Rep. Pablo Garcia said his son has no plans of clinging on to his position.
“Walay plano si Winston nga mupilit sa iyang pwesto. In fact, he already resigned last June 30 because he is co-terminus with President Arroyo,” Pablo said.
In fact, Pablo said Winston is no longer holding office at the GSIS. The younger Garcia is already out of the country and plans to work there.
Pablo defended his son’s performance saying there was nothing wrong with his running the GSIS.
“No problem if his performance will be evaluated. Winston has increased GSIS assets and it is the most profitable government corporation during his stint,” the elder Garcia said.
The father added that those who continue to criticize his son must have somebody in mind to replace the latter at GSIS.
Pablo said that his son’s position has been vacated and it is not their fault if the Aquino administration has not appointed somebody for the post yet.
“The position is already vacated by my son. So, it’s up to the new administration whom they will appoint,” he added. — THE FREEMAN
