City tourism director now protocol officer

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Tourism Commission director Cinbeth Orellano has been appointed as the new city protocol officer by Mayor Michael Rama.

Rama said that she chose Orellano because of her experience in the field of tourism.

He has yet to appoint someone to the position of Public Information Officer but for the meantime, he assigned his executive assistant Tony del Mar to handle the office with the help of Cerwin Eviota serving as media consultant.

In the previous administration, the Protocol Office and Public Information Office were both handled by Nagiel Bañacia whose term ended last June 30.

The protocol officer handles matters of etiquette and protocol. He or she makes sure that all rules of conduct in a situation are observed.

Rama in a report also said that he will task the protocol officer to enhance relations between the city and its sister cities abroad.

Prior to Orellano’s appointment, Rama already appointed city council secretary Jose Marie Poblete as his city administrator.

Poblete will be replaced by assistant secretary Cynthia Kahulugan as appointed by the council presiding officer and Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young.

Belinda Navascues was appointed secretary to the mayor and temporary head of the Human Resource Department.

Status quo is being implemented among all department heads for three months. These three months will serve as evaluation period for all City Hall employees, especially department heads, to show the new mayor that they fit in their respective positions.

If they will not be able to perform, department heads might be replaced while other employees may be terminated.
