Motorcycle accident kills one

CEBU, Philippines - A man was killed after two motorcycles collided along M.J. Cuenco Avenue at the corner of Holy Name St., Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.

Beneliso Sergio, Jr. 34, of Lower Hermag, Tabok, Mandaue City died at the hospital due to serious injuries to his head and body.

Sergio was driving a Yamaha Crypton with plate numbers IJ-6229 on his way to Mandaue City at around 1 a.m. when the accident occurred.

He slammed into another motorcycle traveling the opposite direction. The second motorcycle, a Honda with plate numbers XI-7701, was driven by Bart Shannon Paredes, 33, of Tipolo, Mandaue City.

Paredes was driving towards the Larsian area near the Fuente Osmeña Rotunda.

Both drivers were injured on the different parts of the body and were taken by responding paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation to different hospitals for emergency treatment.

Luckily for Paredes and his passenger, Christopher Pono, they suffered only minor injuries. They were taken to the Cebu Doctors Hospital while Sergio was rushed to the Mandaue City District Hospital where he died a few hours later.

Both motorcycles were damaged. Paredes was temporarily held at the Traffic Patrol Group office pending the filing of appropriate charges against him at the prosecutors’ office.  – THE FREEMAN
