Closure of main drainage caused flood in lowlands?
CEBU, Philippines - An engineer of a subdivision developer in barangay Lagtang, Talisay City, yesterday denied that his company’s property caused the flooding last Sunday, adding that it was the closure of a main drainage of the neighboring Villa Estelita that caused the rainwater to flood the lowland areas.
Albert Plazos, project engineer of Sta. Lucia Realty Development Corp., said he inspected the area and saw that the subdivision’s main drainage which links to the adjacent Sta. Catalina subdivision was closed.
Plazos’s defense came after Sta. Lucia was blamed for the flooding in Sta. Catalina Subdivision last Monday, which caused its perimeter fence to collapse damaging four vehicles owned by residents.
He said their drainage system has already been completed, hence, they could not have possibly caused it.
Meanwhile, new barangay Lagtang chief Ronnie Cabuenas said the rainy season has always been a problem because of the flood, which is a common occurrence in the low-lying areas.
He said he had already requested subdivision developers to clear up their drainage even before the start of the rainy season, so that the deluge of rainwater would be prevented.
Barangay Lagtang is one of the city’s flood-prone areas as identified by the City Disaster Coordinating Council.
Meanwhile, the Talisay City Engineering Office has already investigated the incident. (FREEMAN NEWS)
