Couple wounded after being shot by neighbor

CEBU, Philippines - A couple got injured after they were shot while walking home in Sitio Butong, Barangay Cabasiangan, Balamban town last Wednesday evening.

Gil Quohitmingaw and his wife, Rosemarie, were rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City after they were shot by their neighbor, Jesus Noya.

Gil sustained a gunshot wound to the back portion of his body while Rosemarie was hit in the stomach.

Police revealed that the couple came from a market in Barangay Lusaran, Cebu City. Upon reaching Sitio Butong, they allegedly saw Noya waiting for them by the road.

While the victims approach, Noya allegedly drew out an undetermined caliber of gun and fired several times at them and then immediately fled.

PO2 Ceasar Climaco, desk officer on duty of Balamban Police Station said they are still conducting follow up investigation to determine the motive of the incident.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman got injured after shot by her drunken uncle who went wild in Sitio Punong, Barangay Ibo, Toledo City last Wednesday afternoon.

Maria Cabonita, married, sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen when shot by her own uncle, Roque Canillo Pahaganas, 58, married, also resident of the place.

Cabonita was rushed to Toledo District Hospital but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further medication.

Police initial investigation revealed that the victim was standing in front of her house around 4:30 in the afternoon when suddenly Pahaganas arrived and challenged the people he met for a fistfight but nobody was paying much attention to him as he was very drunk.

Suddenly, the suspect drew out a gun and shot Cabonita hitting her abdomen.

The suspect was later arrested in his shanty.

Chief Insp. Jovito Canlapan, chief of Toledo City Police Station, said that they searched for the gun used by the suspect but they only found the magazine with three live ammunitions and one slug, all of .45 caliber of gun in the crime scene.

“Naay gamay na away-away murag misunderstanding lang ba, kanang away asawa niya ug pag-umangkon unya naka inom ang suspect mao to nakapusil,” Canlapan said.

Frustrated homicide was filed against Pahaganas in Regional Trial Court in Toledo City yesterday.(FREEMAN NEWS)
