- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - Medellin town Mayor Ricardo Ramirez and Lapu-Lapu City Police director Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel Jr. have launched “Scubasurero,” a coastal cleanup project that aims to raise public awareness in environmental concerns.

Ramirez invited Natuel and his personnel, who are diving enthusiasts, to his town to join the program.

According to Natuel, there are 30 policemen in Lapu-Lapu that are trained divers.

Natuel said the “scubasurero” is part of the police commitment to protect and conserver the environment focusing on coastal areas.

This also aims to heighten public awareness of global environmental concerns.

Last Saturday, PNP personnel of Lapu-Lapu and some various sectors in the city went to Gipitngil Island in Medellin upon the invitation of Ramirez for the clean-up drive.

Mayor Ramirez said that sustained environmental protection through regular coastal cleanup is one of the priority environmental programs of the town.

HE SAID THIS ACTIVITY IS DESIGNED TO PRESERVE, CONSERVE, AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE COASTAL MARINE ECOSYSTEM. –
